Story of Tormen
The Tormen's story by Olli-Pekka Tervo (september 2008)

An idea of Tormen born in summer 2007. I hadn't played guitar for a long time, and one day I was listening Metallica's "justice" from radio, I thought it would be nice to start a cover band project, and start to play again. So I started to put band together right away. First I was thinking Jarno Markus from Frostburn to be our vocalist, and his brother Jarkko Markus as our bassist. My brothers, Tomi and Niko, could be the other guitarist and a drummer. Maybe two months later, we had our first playing session. Our line-up changed quickly, as Jarno didn't had time to our project, so we decided that Jarkko starts to sing (actually we had to use maximum effort of force to get him sing). I also think Jarkko's voice suits better to our music in anyway. This whole start of Tormen was still quite sticky. We only had a few trainings at 2007. So I had some time to do songs for us.

At 2008, when I got my garage ready, me and Tomi started to think, if we could make a little home studio in it. We bought some equipment, like microphones, mixer and few computer programs, to get things started. I think it was in march, when we made our first recordings. Sound was a bit disappointment at first, but we managed to improve it so much, that making up our own demo or even EP, started to seem possible.

We recorded nine songs in a moment (vocals for only 3 songs). We improved our sound that much, that we decided to go with the complete LP, because there is so little difference in costs. At summer 2008 we didn't do anything. Everyone had so much other things to do, and no time for a band.
Sleepaway
So, Sleepaway is Tormen's first "album", and it's all composed by me. Only one song, Wolf is composed by Tomi and me. I've even composed all bass scores on this album. Jarkko has done all lyrics. I tried that too, but I must say, I'm not very good at it. Wolf and Fright Train themes are from my original lyrics, but Jarkko has completely rewritten those too. We had over 20 songs where to pick ones to this album. These are not necessary the best ones, but I think these just matched the most, and we are satisfied with these. We propably will start to record our next album soon, because we have so much stuff for it. There will be more complicated and heavier stuff in that one.
